We planted our first rice crop on 1/4 acre of land in the spring of 2015. In 2016 we increased production to 1/2 acre and we purchased a combine for more efficient harvesting. We grow three varieties: Koshihikari, a Japanese short grain; Hmong Sticky and Blue Bonnet, a long-grain. We grow our rice using upland, or dry land methods, meaning no flooding. We start them as seedlings in the greenhouse then transplant them to the field. Because the rice is not flooded the plants require regular weeding and irrigation.
We grow our rice in healthy soil with no pesticides, synthetic sprays or fertilizers. We sell brown rice so our customers get the most nutritious and flavorful rice we can offer.
Look for our rice at our Farmers' Markets in Fall and Winter. We are currently sold out for 2015 and 2016. We plan to increase production for 2017.
