Join our Crew

We are currently looking for three crew members and one crew leader to join our 2019 team. Positions are from April-November. Pay is hourly and competitive. See below for job descriptions.

ABOUT US

Our farm is entering our sixth year of production. We farm 10 acres of specialty vegetables, fruits, rice and dry beans. We sell at three area farmers markets. We grow using organic methods and are in transition to Certified Organic. We work very hard to create a team environment where employees have an opportunity to learn all aspects of the farm operation and grow into leadership positions.

Our farm is located in Rougemont, NC close to Hillsborough and Durham. We do not have on-farm housing. Lunch is provided daily as a group staff lunch using produce from the farm.

CREW POSITIONS (POSITIONS STILL OPEN)

Tasks include greenhouse seeding and maintenance, weeding, harvest and wash and prep for market. We also have opportunities in tractor operation and cultivation, irrigation setup based on interest and skill.

We are looking for applicants who are focused, enthusiastic, and interested in contributing to their community and environment through active involvement in the food system. Previous farm experience is preferred but we are also open to those who have not farmed before and are eager to learn quickly.

CREW LEADER (FILLED)

The crew leader will organize and coordinate our crew of 3. This will include overseeing harvest and delegating daily tasks under the supervision of the farm owners. The crew leader will answer questions about tasks, and set the standards of quality for the harvest and field work. A key feature of this job is to keep the crew working efficiently and facilitating smooth transitions between tasks throughout the day. The crew leader will work with the crew in greenhouse, transplanting, cultivation and harvest. This may also include tractor work and irrigation setup. Tasks will also include some record keeping with the farm owners.

Applicants for this position should be focused and able to concentrate on their own tasks while also being alert to the crew and their progress. Candidates should have at least two full seasons of work experience on a vegetable farm. Strong communication skills are very important, including willingness and ability to offer supportive criticism. Applicants should be self-motivated, independent and well-organized.
